The Automated Export System method was paper-bound, costly, labor intensive, and prone to mistake prior to AES. AES is a countrywide system that works with all modes of transportation and at all ports. Its goals were to guarantee export law compliance and enforcement, enhance trade statistics, lessen redundant reporting to various authorities, and enhance customer service.
